This book is intended to introduce undergraduate students who major in mathematics, science and engineering to vectors and multivariate calculus. These are essential areas in science and engineering. However, the book contains much more material than can be used in a semester course as it covers the standard topics on vector calculus and multivariate calculus.
Each of the first three chapters ends with a number of questions. Examples in the last chapter are drawn from application areas such as Engineering, Physics and Statistics. Short appendices also provide reference material on some physical constants, trigonometric relations and commonly used integrals. Graphics are used to display, where necessary, certain curves and surfaces in two or three dimensions, to help locate extreme points, and to display quantities, such as temperature and fluid density. It is assumed that the readers have an easy access to and are familiar with MATLAB.
Notes
Several of the Bay text books are suitable for single-module courses.
